I’d run a successful business with my husband, Dave for ten years, then branched out with a spin-off business that I later sold for $70,000. Things were good. I didn’t really need to work. I spent my days exploring areas of interest. If I saw something I wanted, I got it. Those financially carefree days went on for nearly fifteen years.
That all changed in 2006 when Dave and I sent out 125 announcements to our family and friends announcing, that after 25 years of marriage, we were celebrating the successful completion of our soul contract.
We said that though our love for each other would never die, it was time for us to continue our life journeys on diverging paths. We asked our friends to support us in this reshaping of our relationship from husband and wife to good friends.
This meant I would be completely responsible for my financial well-being from then on. I was very confident I’d be self-supporting within a year.
Fast Forward 5 Years.
It took me 5 whole years of diligent hard work to get my “degree” from the School of Hard Knocks where I majored in Trial and Error. In that time I burned through my entire life savings, and racked up a six-figure credit card debt that ushered me right into bankruptcy. Ugh!
It was never my intention to make every possible business mistake so my clients wouldn’t have to, but that is what happened.
Fortunately, I connected with a mentor who showed me the missing puzzle pieces I didn’t even know existed. It was a case of me not knowing what I didn’t know, so I wasn’t looking for what was missing.
